Last night’s meeting was very lively with two excellent speeches from Michael Murphy and Cel O’Leary. Cel took us back to Victorian England with a speech entiteld “1859″ which dealt with Dickens, Darwin and John Stuart Mill who all published definitive works in that year. “A tale of two cities”, “The origin of the species” and “On Liberty”.

Michael Murphy spoke on the human heart and its operation, for his fifth speech, in which the speaker works on their use of Body Language. Both were excellent, entertaining and educational speeches.

During the Topics session when the meeting is open to the floor for contributions, we covered several issues all suggested by Trevor Mulcahy, our Topicsmaster for the night. However the topic with the most contributions and on which the most divergent views were presented, was “Head Shops”…

Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day – We’ll have our next meeting on Thursday 25th March at 7:50 in Macroom-E centre, all are welcome. If you are curious, come along – You will be warmly welcomed.

All things going to plan, we should have several speeches to enjoy at next week’s meeting at the Macroom E centre, Thursday 11th March at 7:50PM.

By the way, just a gentle reminder to any of our club members that we are looking for Pictures and a few words for the club’s website. How long have you been in Toastmasters? What have you gotten from TM? Any particular experiences from TM stand out? 2 or 3 sentences is all we need.

Two speeches tonight at Macroom Toastmasters.

Any guests considering turning up to tonight’s Macroom Toastmaster’s meeting in the Macroom E centre ( at 7:50PM) have two speeches to look forward to:

“A Kestrel for a Knave” by Mark Loughrey
“Baby steps” by Anthony Galvin.

While the former is just starting out as a speaker, the latter will be presenting his tenth speech tonight, which sees the completion of the first Toastmaster’s qualification – “Competent Communicator”. We hope to see you there!

Good things come in small packages…

Or… Small meetings yield great results. Our first meeting of 2010 had a slightly smaller than usual attendance, but the meeting was very enjoyable regardless of the numbers. We were delighted to be joined by two guests, Chris and Ciara who we hope we’ll see again.

Guests are always welcome and they don’t have to say a thing – There is no pressure to speak in Toastmasters!

Michael Murphy gave a great speech on the fickle nature of perception entitled “The Gold Rush”. Both the speech evaluator Michael Lynch, and the meeting’s General Evaluator, Kieran Coffey were impressed by the humour in the speech.

John Skeates also presented a very enjoyable topics session which drew on everything from history to transport.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 11th of February, 7:50PM at the Macroom-E centre as usual. In case you were wondering where that is, here is a map. We look forward to seeing you there.

Meeting on 14th Postponed. Next Meeting 28th January.

The weather is just too bad! With safety in mind, we have decided to put off this weeks meeting.

Sorry about this… We may reschedule an extra meeting at the end of the year.
